Hong Kong’s decrease in foggy days gladdens visitors
Data shows that Hong Kong’s foggy days decrease.
This is a good news for visitors, who are eager to see Hong Kong’s skyline and enjoy the great view of Victoria Harbor at Victoria Peak.
Frank the tour guide is going to show readers the details of the data and try to analyze the reason of the decrease.
Frank hopes he can show his home town’s great view to clients again soon during his Hong Kong private tour service.
Reason for the decrease in Hong Kong’s foggy days
In spring, the south-easterly wind from the South China Sea brings the ocean current to Hong Kong.
When the warm and humid ocean current touches the still cool sea surface, the water vapor in the air condenses into tiny water droplets.
Those tiny water droplets form the fog.
Normally Hong Kong gets most of the foggy days from February through April.
Foggy weather sometimes puts a damper on visitors’ Hong Kong holidays in spring.
However, new data shows Hong Kong’s foggy days decrease.
Annual mean number of days with fog between 1961-1990 | Annual mean number of days with fog between 1991-2020 |
---|---|
5.87 | 3.70 |
Hong Kong’s annual mean number of days with fog actually decreases more than two days (5.87-3.70=2.17)!
This is a good change for the visitors.
Frank the tour guide finds out that Hong Kong’s sea surface gets warmer.
Mean Sea Surface Temperatures of
Victoria Harbor (1975-2004) |
Mean Sea Surface Temperatures of
Victoria Harbor (1991-2020) |
|
---|---|---|
February | 16.9°C | 17.2°C |
March | 18.1°C | 18.5°C |
April | 21.1°C | 21.6°C |
When the warm and humid ocean current touches the warmer sea surface, the water vapor may not condense into tiny water droplets as much as before.
Thus the number of foggy days decreases.
Visibility gets better.
Visitors can enjoy the great view of Hong Kong more easily.
Frank will show clients Hong Kong great view on the clear days
The above-mentioned new climatic data about the decrease in foggy days shows visitors can get more opportunities to enjoy the great view of Hong Kong.
Frank the tour guide hopes travelers can return to Hong Kong as soon as possible after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Frank is going to show his clients Hong Kong’s amazing view at the Victoria Peak again during his Hong Kong private tour service!
