Frank the tour guide’s stories with Hong Kong City Hall
When Frank the tour guide prepares the new blog post, Frank finds out that the ground-breaking ceremony of Hong Kong City Hall in Central was on 25 Feb 1960.
Actually Hong Kong City Hall is related to Frank the tour guide’s study, career and business.
Frank is going to share his three stories with Hong Kong City Hall in this post.
Made in Hong Kong Frank hopes he can share Hong Kong stories and his own stories with clients again soon in his Hong Kong private tour.
Frank often borrowed reference books at City Hall Public Library for his part-time study
In 2003, Frank was an office boy in a property management company in Central.
Frank also studied the part-time distance learning bachelor degree programme at the Open University of Hong Kong.
Although the salary was low, the boss gave Frank a lot of room to study.
During the one-hour free time after lunch on every working day, Frank often went to the public library in the Hong Kong City Hall to borrow reference books.
The tomes helped Frank to finish a lot of assignments and get good result!
Frank is really appreciative of the help from his former boss.
Now Frank still shares his study story with his clients.
Frank also shows clients the names of the ex-boss and his parents, which were engraved on the long and beautiful altar of the main hall and the long column of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall of the Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island.
Actually the boss and his parents are the big donors to the temple!

Frank memorized model tour commentary of City Hall to take guide pass examination
Frank graduated in 2007 and worked in the secondary school as a teacher assistant and in the publishing house as an editor for some time.
In early 2010, Frank took the tourist guide pass examination.
Apart from the written examination, there was the oral examination.
The examination was a mock Hong Kong Island tour programme, which was divided into 25 sections with a model tour commentary.
Frank and other student guides needed to act as the real guide in the tour bus to introduce one section of the tour programme to the guests, i.e. the students themselves and the teacher.
The first section of the mock tour programme was the Hong Kong City Hall!
Frank still remembers the nervous oral examination day.
When Frank and classmates were waiting for the mock tour bus to come to pick us up, everyone made the last minute attempt outside the City Hall Building to memorize more model tour commentary details for the oral examination.
Based on the model tour commentary, Frank now adds a lot of new content to his own tour commentary to make it more conversational and easy to understand.
5: “Frank…was very helpful with logistics and communication…”

5Review: Frank gave our group a tour of Macau and also a tour of Hong Kong. He was very knowledgeable on many topics and was much more conversational than simply presenting a canned presentation. He was very helpful with logistics and communication and offered excellent options for us to make the most of our time when the weather was less than optimal.(Browse private tour page) |
Frank’s response: Thank you very much, Laura! Apart from helping clients to make good use of their valuable time, the good logistics arrangement, i.e. the included private car with driver, offers the clients and private guide the private, easy and comfortable environment. So the guide is no need to worry about the logistics issues. The guide can get more room to make better tour commentary and chit-chat with the clients.(Message Frank to plan YOUR private tour) |
Frank was the witness in client’s wedding ceremony in City Hall Marriage Registry
In 2012, Frank the tour guide began to get his own private tour business online.
In about 2015, Frank got one special tour request at the Viator private guide platform.
The clients wanted Frank and Frank’s partner to be the witnesses of his wedding ceremony in Hong Kong City Hall Marriage Registry.
Frank accepted the request.
As “a single, lonely and poor guide”, Frank could just find his father as the partner to help the clients.
The job was short but meaningful.
Frank thinks that it is difficult to get another job like that at the Marriage Registry.
Frank hopes he can serve more honeymooners in his Hong Kong city private tour or layover private tour.
