Official first day cover for Hong Kong Past and Present Series Victoria Harbor special stamps
The special stamps show the great view of Victoria Harbor in 1962 and in 2020.
Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor changes a lot in 55 years.
This post is going to show you those changes.

Apart from tour it yourselves (TIY) the Sky100 observation deck in the tallest ICC building to see the good view (Take MTR to Kowloon Station Exit C1), travelers can be Frank the tour guide’s clients in his Hong Kong Island private car tour to see the great view of Victoria Harbor at the Victoria Peak.
Victoria Harbor in 1962 and in 2020
The four special stamps show you the two sides of Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula.
The $5 stamp shows you the Wan Chai Area on Hong Kong Island.

Wan Chai in 1962 and 2020
In 1962, it was the old residential area and red light area, where the US soldiers and sailors enjoyed themselves and the story of “the World of Suzie Wong” happened.
In 2020, it is another commercial center of Hong Kong.
The third tallest building Central Plaza and Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, which built on the reclaimed land, outshine the Hopewell Center built in 1982 near the hillside.

The $5 stamp and the $4.9 stamp show you the Admiralty and Central.

Central and Admiralty in 1962 and 2020. See the anchorage for British warships at Admiralty in 1962. In 2020 it is the reclaimed land.
In 1962, Admiralty was still mainly the British military forbidden area, which hindered the business development.
In 2020, although Chinese Army Headquarters is still in the business center, the military building, the once tallest Jardine House and the still special HSBC Main Building are overshadowed by the taller Bank of China and IFCII.

Bank of China Building is designed by Chinese American architect, I M Pei.

The $3.7 stamp and $2 stamp show you the Sheung Wan and Western Area.

Sheung Wan and Western Area in 1962 and 2020
In 1962, the wharfs, warehouses, salted fish market and short tenement buildings occupied the two areas.
In 2020, although the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal is still there, salted fish market has been upgraded to be the dried seafood market.

Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal is in the Shun Tak Center.

The MTR development has quickened urban renewal.
The opposite side Kowloon was more backward than Hong Kong Island in 1962.

Kowloon Peninsula in 1962
There were the Kowloon Wharfs, Whampoa dockyard and different industrial areas.
The height limit to buildings, which caused by the in-city Kai Tak Airport, hindered the development of Kowloon.
In 2020, wharfs, dockyards, factories and airport have been replaced by cruise terminals and high-rise residential buildings.
