A lot of guests go to Macau for a day tour during their stay in Hong Kong.
They have a lot of different questions about their Macau tour.
In this passage, I will share their frequently asked questions about Macau and my answers.
Do I need to bring a passport with a Macau visa?
As Macau is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) under the People’s Republic of China, the autonomous city has its own immigration department and customs.
For the foreign travelers, YOU must bring YOUR passports to go to Macau.
But for most Western travelers, i.e. American, British, Canadian, Australian, different Europeans, YOU are no need to get the visa for Macau. (For details, YOU may browse the website of Macau Public Security Police Force.)
The situation is the same as Hong Kong, which is also the SAR (passport only, no visa for most travelers).
Please remember, keep the Hong Kong departure cards in the passports.
YOU need to fill in an arrival cards on entering Hong Kong. The bottom sheets (left in your passport) become your departure cards.
When YOU leave Hong Kong to go to Macau, YOU need to submit the departure cards to Hong Kong Immigration Department officers .
If YOU don’t have the departure cards in the passports, YOU need to spend some time to complete the card again!

How can I go to Macau?
Today most travelers go to Macau by the high speed ferry. There is also a helicopter service between Hong Kong and Macau.
If YOU stay on Hong Kong Island, YOU can take the fast ferry at Shun Tak Center at Sheung Wan.
If YOU stay in Kowloon, YOU can take fast ferry at the China Hong Kong City at Tsim Sha Tsui.
YOU cannot take the high speed ferry at the Star Ferry Pier!
YOU may choose Turbojet, which is owned by the King of Casino of Macau, Stanley Ho, and runs more frequently, or Cotai Water Jet, which is owned by the Sands.
By the high speed boat, it takes about 1 hour to go to Macau from Hong Kong. It takes another 1 hour to go back to Hong Kong from Macau.
So plus the time for immigration, YOU need to spend 3 hours on transportation and immigration!
But take it easy, as YOUR private tour guide, I will be with YOU during the whole process. I will arrange the included ferry tickets for you and offer YOU the easy and enjoyable experience during Macau private tour.
My cruise arrives at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal at 0700 and leaves at 2000 on the same day. Can I have the Macau full day shore excursion?
Time is not enough for the full day shore excursion tour in Macau if YOUR cruise arrives at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal at 0700 and leaves at 2000 on the same day.
If YOU do the Macau tour, YOU may face the risk of missing the cruise!
This is because YOU rely on the high speed ferry and need to pass the immigration.
The ferry may delay due to bad weather. YOU may meet a long queue at the immigration.
Also YOU need to go back to the cruise before the departure time of the cruise due to something like the fire drill.
It is not easy to go back and forth the remote Kai Tak Cruise Terminal too.
Even if YOUR cruise arrives at the Ocean Terminal, which is close to the China Hong Kong City, and leaves on the same day, it may be too rush to do the Macau tour.
So YOU may stay in Hong Kong and have a full day city tour by private car.
During the full day shore excursion in Hong Kong, the private car can pick YOU up at and bring YOU back to the cruise terminal easily and punctually.
How much time do I have in Macau for sightseeing during the full day Macau private tour?
The duration for full day Macau tour start at Hong Kong is 9 hours, which includes the 3 hours for taking ferry and immigration.
In Macau, YOU can use the private car to do sightseeing for 4 hours. After that, the driver send YOU to one of the casinos.
YOU can have free time (also for your lunch time) there for about 2 hours.
Totally YOU have about 5 to 6 hours sightseeing time to visit the World Heritage and casinos in Macau.
